Boombox

BOOMBOX from Ely Kim on Vimeo.
Here is a crazy video for all of you crazy kids who are still recovering from last night's MyNameIsJohnMichael CD release silliness.

This video is of Ely Kim. Ely opted to do a dance a day for 100 days in 100 different locations. He's shaking his tail feather to some indie rock dance music favorites including Lykke Li, Girl Talk, MGMT, Hot Chip, M.I.A........

Glasgow @ HOB

Local indie rockers, Glasgow, will be opening for 90's pop rock sensation Third Eye Blind this Wednesday @ House of Blues. Its always a pleasure to see one of the local indie rock bands take the main stage at HOB.

Afterwards, head straight across the street for Glasgow's Afterparty at Attiki where the boys will be hanging out to the wee hours of the morning.

New FREE Voxtrot Track

Voxtrot has released a new song for free download on their official site. After what amounts to a 2 year MIA status, new Voxtrot excites us, and hopefully you. Check it out.

And the new local sensation is....

This occasional doo-wop pop, dancey sensation comes from the reestablished duo Grant Widmer and Ted Joyner of Eames Era (remember that one song...Could Be Anything...).

Equipped with female backup singers, this group is enriching the scene with a sound quite different from other local indie rockers. They have my vote. Check them out now, so later on we don't have to tell you 'we told you so'.

Pay what you want for their album 'The Con' here.

Caddywhompus CD Release tonight @ Saturn Bar

Caddywhompus, one of the youngest and freshest bands in NOLA, is releasing their CD "EPs" (its a psuedo full length to quote them) tonight @ Saturn Bar. If you haven't had a chance to see these guys yet, do it. The album is made up of reworked and remastered versions of their first EP + 4 songs from a split cassette they released and 2 previously unreleased tracks.

And if you are sitting there thinking, "On a Monday?" Well, there is even more incentive. Not only is it Caddywhompus' CD Release, but Antenna Inn will be gracing the stage.

Still not enough? Well than The Antlers and Motel Motel will be playing as well as they tour through town on their way SXSW. If you haven't heard either of this bands, check em out cause they are going to make some noise.

Newcomers (sorta) and Out Of Towners

Tonight there is a hell of a show going on over at Circle Bar. Park The Van's High Strung are headlining with NOLA new comers Generationals opening things up. If you haven't heard the Generationals yet, check them out here. Formed by two ex members of The Eames Era, these guys, while new, still know what they are doing.

The High Strung promise to put on an upbeat, foot stompin, ass shaking show. Their bright westernesque bright 60's pop sound makes sure you won't be standing still. Check em out here.

Love Instrumental?

If so, this weekend was made for you.

Some of the premiere New Orleans instrumental bands have grouped together (and brought in some of their closest friends from southern Louisiana and Texas) to put on a showcase of instrumental music in New Orleans.

This promises to be an exciting time. Make sure to make it out at least one day, if not both to check out some of the most progressive music around town.

A Little Music Lagniappe

A little news for those attending SXSW next week AND for those who will only be listening from the cyber sidelines.

NPR posted a FREE 10 song SXSW sampler download. Artists include Blind Pilot (my favorite), Thao, Avett Brothers, and the Decemberists. Download it here.

Work It.

This is just ridiculous - I have to share. Be your own Daft Punk DJ with iDaft.

In real news... Daft Punk will write the original score for the new Disney movie called Tron 2.0.  Edgy! Read the article here.

CYHSY and Foreign Born free tracks

In case you haven't heard, two great bands have recently released free tracks.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah released "Statues." They consider the song a demo version which they say they plan to keep working on, hopefully in preparation for a new album. Its interesting for a band to release a work in progress, as so many artists wait until an album is 100% done before they release songs. Download it from their official website here.

The second track I found while checking out Grizzly Bear's blog. Foreign Born, who have apparently become friends with Grizzly Bear, let them post "Vacationing People" for download. For those not familiar, Foreign Born are a Los Angeles band who makes good pop experimental rock. Download the track off Grizzly Bear's blog.

Wow...

So I think the fact that I haven't posted since mid-day Friday may speak to the fact to how great Friday and Saturday Nights of the NOLA Indie Rock Fest were. Seriously, we packed One Eyed Jacks and Howlin Wolf which is all thanks to everyone who played and came out. All 7 bands killed it. It was really great having The Peekers go down for a visit. Also seeing The Public for the first time in 6 months. Oh yeah and the after party at The Saint?!?! Nothing like leaving there at 6:15 am. This weekend went so fast, it was unbelievable. I haven't had this much fun in a while, and hopefully everyone had a great time.

Keep your eyes here (and our website) for some pictures of the fest and links to reviews, and of course everything else indie rock.

NIRF Day 1

What can we say? Well apparently, we are pretty damn pleased with how tonight went as I am posting about it now when I got home, instead of waiting till tomorrow morning. The Blue Party, The Pharmacy and Caddywhompus all brought their "A" game, as did the Hi Ho Lounge and everyone in the crowd. I can't wait for tomorrow night at One Eyed Jacks. Lets make magic.

NIRF After Party Announced

If you had any doubt that there would be an after party to close out the fest, you were mistaken.

There, of course, will be one. It will be happening at one of our favorite local bars, The Saint.

So after rocking out to Glasgow, swing on by to The Saint for some follow up action with DJs.
